Wide awake Sun rises, mind aches Bright sphere Why is it here? Here I sit, grinding teeth to grit Horizon quivers as anxiety hits Is this still today or has that passed? How many hours does this last? Sun looms in impending doom Home sweet home a tomb Daystorm strikes Pressure spikes Pain ignites Death invites Night is not what I despise For it’s here in the light where true fear lies
Too unstable to coexist Excommunication I cannot resist Remove all traces of me from your memory From every entry, from every list Paralytic with this contempt Each moment worst than what I’d dreamt Whether I’m punishing me or I’m saving you This exile is a thing preempt The rest of this hollow existence Spent in exile without resistance Adrift on horizonless seas so directionless Between us expanding the distance This is not a fucking test I lay this resentment to rest As empty ships sail past Fractured memories will be my only guest
Condemnation built upon exoskeletons Lead-in/bleed-out Reverse-engineering the already-fucked Hard to have pride in a place you’re cursed And now we revert Invert We’re back to where we were Inert

Midwestern black/shoegaze outfit CHROME WAVES and New York City-area’s GRIDFAILURE have aligned their disheartening musical outlooks on a split album.

CHROME WAVES leads the record, delivering nearly thirty minutes of their ominous, blackened rock, with some of their most expansive and emotive material yet. With two original tracks and their rendering of the bleak classic “The Eternal” by Joy Division, the band's tracks were recorded and mixed at Disorder Recordings in Indianapolis, Indianapolis, with James Benson providing vocals, Jeff Wilson performing bass, guitars, programming, synth, and vocals, and guest Roman Pinter of Nott providing saxophone.

GRIDFAILURE offers some of the outfit’s most thunderous material to date with its half of the split. Hostile alchemist David Brenner delivers an assault of guitars, bass, keys, effects, drums, programming, and more infused with field recordings, effects, and layers of confrontational vocals. The five originals and a harrowing rendition of the seminal Today Is The Day hymn “Temple Of The Morning Star” were performed, recorded, and mixed by Brenner at The Compound in Valley Cottage, New York.

released March 27, 2020

Both the CHROME WAVES and GRIDFAILURE songs were mastered by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering in Nashville, Tennessee (Kool Keith, Benjamin Tod, Krieg). David Brenner designed the cover artwork utilizing photos from Jeff Wilson and himself.
